Reconstruction of the nipple is the last part of the breast reconstruction surgery. However, from a visual perspective it is also a decisive factor in ensuring that the breast looks attractive and natural. We have a wide range of techniques at our disposal to reconstruct the nipple and areola.
The operation is always performed in an outpatient setting, under a local anaesthetic, or under twilight sedation or a general anaesthetic if requested.
We begin by marking up the position of the new nipple on the breast while the patient is standing. The nipple itself is fashioned by making an incision in the skin and shaping it. We can reconstruct the texture and colour of the areola with a full thickness graft from the inner thigh. This area can also be tattooed, if desired.
Delayed wound healing and unsightly scars are easily treatable. If the colour match is not exact, the tattoos can always be redone.
