Elongation of the inner labia as a result of ageing or genetic factors can cause considerable physical discomfort. It can also spoil the enjoyment of cycling or riding. This common condition is seldom addressed out of a sense of shame. Yet the problem can easily be remedied in a relatively minor operation.
The operation is performed in an outpatient setting, under a local anaesthetic, or under twilight sedation or a general anaesthetic if requested.
We remove excess soft tissue from the small inner labia, thereby reducing them. Scarring is minimal and becomes virtually undetectable. At the end of the operation the inner labia are again covered by the large outer labia.
Absorbable sutures are used so there is no need to have any stitches removed.
The follow-up treatment of the area can be easily carried out at home using camomile hip baths. After the operation, activities that involve sitting and cycling and riding should be avoided for 1 to 2 weeks and it is advisable to abstain from sexual intercourse for 4 weeks.
The resultant swelling of the labia subsides after 2 to 4 weeks. Slight irritations in the intimate area also disappear after a short while.
