The excess skin or fat deposit caused by the wrinkles, baggy eyelids or tear sacs that form when the skin and muscles of the eyelid begin to sag make a face look slightly tired. Tightening the lids (blepharoplasty) not only rejuvenates the area around your eyes, it reinvigorates your whole appearance as well.

The operation is performed in an outpatient or short-stay inpatient setting, under a local anaesthetic, or twilight sedation if requested.

We remove excess skin and fatty tissue in the lid area and tighten the muscles. The scars are virtually invisible. The scars on the upper lids are hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid whereas the scars on the lower lids are concealed on the edge of the lid below the eyelashes.

After the procedure, the area around the eyes is cooled and ideally protected with sunglasses. And the sutures can be removed after just 5 to 7 days.

Postoperative events

Swelling in the lid area is normal after this operation, but subsides after 2 to 3 weeks provided area around the eyes is kept cool and the head is propped up. Discolouration due to occasional bruising also disappears within 2 to 3 weeks. In rare cases it may not be possible to close the eyes completely but this usually clears up once the swelling subsides.
