When heavy earrings are worn or get caught they can elongate the piercing hole on the ear lobe or even split it. This results in so-called split ear lobes.
The operation is performed in an outpatient setting, under a local anaesthetic.
We clean the skin around the elongated hole or torn ear lobe and carefully sew it back together. This closes the tear completely.
The pressure bandage consisting of a thin plaster is removed, together with the sutures, after one week. You should wait 6 months before having your ears re-pierced.
The fine scars are virtually invisible as a rule. Pressure treatment with ear clips can be carried out if necessary.
